We are currently accepting qualified applications for a Librarian Technician to support one of our Government clients at Aberdeen, MD.

Work Description:
  • Enters information into local Integrated Library Management System (ILS).
  • Uses professionally developed, internationally accepted standard library formats and schema.
  • Uses Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) cataloging and interlibrary loan modules.
  • Verifies citations in cataloging records, invoices, and forms; identifies and correct inconsistencies, reports them and makes directed corrections.
  • Uses phone, email, professional modules (e.g., OCLC ILL) or correspondence, by library
  • personnel in other ARL, DoD, Academic, or other libraries or institutions to locate, obtain materials, or respond to requests for materials or information associated with Interlibrary Loan, acquisition, or other library functions.
  • Coordinates requests (phone, email, digital sender or written correspondence) or other actions
  • with four (4) other ARL library facilities as well as other Government libraries and commercial or
  • non-profit information centers, and university libraries.
  • Supports customers in locating materials and using specialized library equipment.
  • Maintains shelves to include shifting varied media to accommodate placement or removal of
  • materials in shelf list or other appropriate order. May require considerable repositioning, moving and re-placement of shelving, to accommodate size or amount of media.
  • Loads and unloads book trucks, uses government equipment and vehicles to move media and
  • supplies to designated locations within or between libraries or other government buildings.
  • Assembles, fills, and marks boxes for movement to or preparation for storage or destruction.
  • Stacks and marks materials for storage documenting purpose, status, and disposition.
  • Prepares temporary signage to document change and status of operation. When performing tasks, documents and labels which stage of the operation have been accomplished on what date and by whom. This shall include the marking of materials, boxes, packages, shelves, or range of shelves.
  • Unpacks and collates library media in varied formats, verifies contents, and brings errors to
  • attention of Librarians or appropriate Government personnel.
  • Packs and prepares materials for shipping, salvage, or destruction in specified formats.
  • Handles limited or classified materials consistent with procedures mandated by AR 380-5.
  • Uses book trucks, shelving ladders, and safety equipment when shelving media.
  • Locates vendors or sources for library materials, furnishings and supplies.
  • Identifies need for supplies, organizes, stores, and retrieves supplies, reports inconsistencies and deficiencies in orders and takes corrective action seeking guidance for unfamiliar actions.
  • Uses copy and fax machines, digital senders, microfilm and microfiche machines, and other library-unique equipment.
  • Adjusts high density shelving for efficient operation either manually or electronically and/or
  • repositions media to accommodate equipment insufficiency.
  • Operates telephone (to include answering and taking messages).
  • Operates copy equipment, microform equipment, digital sender, and scanning equipment.
  • Prepares media and supplies for distribution by government or commercial courier, using
  • appropriate documentation.
  • Provides on-the-job training to other contractor personnel.
Education/Experience Requirement:
  • High School diploma.
  • Certificate of library technician training or recent (within last two (2) years) training or work experience with a standard integrated Library Computer System such as STILAS.
  • Training (must provide evidence of formal training) or previous work experience in MS Office.
