We are currently accepting qualified applications for a BMET III to support one of our government clients in beautiful San Antonio, TX. The hours of operation are from 7:30-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
 
Requirements:
BMET III:
  • Provide expert-level experience in the repair, calibration, and maintenance of medical equipment, instrumentation and support systems used in healthcare delivery.
  • Execute professional-level inventory assessment/audits and preventive maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Provide remedial corrective maintenance and maintain documentation of all service events, tests, and maintenance performed on clinical equipment.
  • Provide expert-level experience in the repair, calibration, and maintenance of medical devices, instrumentation and support systems used in healthcare delivery.
  • Execute professional-level inventory assessment/audits and preventive maintenance of medical devices/systems.
  • Provide remedial corrective maintenance and maintain documentation of all service events, tests, and maintenance performed on medical devices in a clinical setting.
 
Duties include:
  • Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect complex medical equipment, instrumentation, and systems.
  • Assign routine repairs, inspections, and installations to subordinates and observe their performance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and systems, and monitor completion of preventive maintenance activities performed by outside vendors.
  • Review outcome of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.
  • Supervise and instruct biomedical equipment maintenance personnel in the safe use, application, testing, and preventive maintenance and repair of all types of clinical equipment technologies and systems.
  • Provide operational leadership to personnel and possibly serve as temporary site manager in the absence of the director/manager/supervisor.
  • Recommend new equipment and testing procedures.
  • Maintain accurate inventory, tracking both the addition and the deactivation of clinical equipment.
  • Maintain documentation on new equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures.
  • Assist, manage, and monitor third-party repairs.
  • Provide leadership and managerial oversight to personnel as assigned.
  • Provide in-service educational programs on use of equipment.
  • Collaborate with Information Systems to ensure Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and connectivity of biomedical devices.
  • Understand and comply with Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations.
Education/Experience:
  • Graduate of a military Biomedical Equipment Specialist/Technician Course or an Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Biomedical Equipment Technology or Engineering. Minimum of eight years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of medical devices/systems.
  • Exceptions are authorized by the Chief, Clinical Engineering or Chief, Biomedical Engineering Services, Brooke AMC through a review of a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) and/or through Regional Health Contracting Office-Central.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of electronic circuitry and technical aspects of the operation, repair and maintenance of electronic equipment
  • Extensive knowledge of the application and repair of computers and servers and how they interface with medical equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of networking theory.
  • Extensive knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
  • Substantial knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.
  • Ability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Ability to run diagnostic programs.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration, and tests.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment; to push/pull equipment carts; and to kneel, stand, bend, and reach during equipment repair.
  • Skill in testing electronic equipment.
  • Skill in manual dexterity, hand-to-eye coordination, and color vision.
  • Skilled in effective communications verbally and in writing, accurately and completely document medical equipment repairs. Provide scheduled services and incoming inspections. Able to communicate with clinical staff and provide assistance in service training. Able to document investigation of equipment hazard alerts, recalls, updates, and incidents.
