We are currently accepting qualified applications for a Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner to support one of our Government clients at the United States Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, NY.
Description of Services/Staff Qualifications / Credentialing:
The two Physician Assistant (PA-C), and/or Nurse Practitioner (NP) shall provide general medicine to the institution Health Services Department at the United States Metropolitan Correctional Center New York, NY (MCC NY), to conduct examinations on patients scheduled by the institution medical staff.
  •  All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the medical profession, and in compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations.
  • The PA/NP shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions.
  • The PA/NP must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  • The PA/NP will provide medical services which conform to all local, State, and Federal laws and regulations applicable to the delivery of medical care to members of the general public.
  • The PA/NP will also conform to all BOP policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines as applicable to Health Services.
  • The BOP physician will have the final authority to approve or disapprove any and all treatment plans and recommendations by the contractor.
The PA/NP shall be responsible for, but not limited to:
  • The evaluation and treatment of patients during routine chronic care clinics, A&O examinations, Physicals and sick call encounters, and will assist as needed during medical emergencies. 
  • He/she will document accurately and thoroughly in the Bureau electronic medical record (BEMR) and will have all documentation completed by the end of the work day.
  • Any recommendations for further diagnostic testing and/or treatment will be made in the appropriate section of the electronic record, pending review by the Utilization Review Committee.
  • The PA/NP shall be fully certified to perform any/all patient evaluations and treatment as determined by the certification process of a Physician Assistant and or Nurse Practitioner.
  • The PA/NP shall have at least one (1) years' experience in working as a PA-C or NP and must be able to evaluate/monitor/treat a patient caseload on their own.
  • This includes but is not limited to the following: basic patient evaluations, determining treatment plans, evaluating complex patient cases and working with the Clinical Director to ensure high quality patient care, appropriate ordering of diagnostic testing, prescribing authority of formulary medications and DEA controlled medications with the co-signature of the supervising physician.
  • Other responsibilities include performance of waived testing, 12-lead EKG with basic interpretation, administration of various medications via various routes (PO, IM, SQ, IV.)
  • The PA/NP should also be able to perform basic procedures or assist with basic procedures such as ingrown toe nail removal, suturing, wound closure (staples and/or surgical glue), and joint injections as applicable.
  • The PA/NP is expected to utilize CDC universal precautions and will treat all patients via applicable BOP guidelines provided during orientation.
  • The PA/NP will also notify the Health Services Administrator and/or Clinical Director of emergent patient cases and possess the ability to respond to medical emergencies accordingly.
  • The PA/NP shall also possess a valid CPR certification.
  • The PA/NP will also assist with pill lines and insulin lines.
  • The PA/NP will also be required to assist other providers with managing patient case loads and assisting with administration of medications to applicable patients.
  • The PA/NP shall make direct entries into the inmates' "Bureau Electronic Medical Records" (BEMR) the patient's history of present complaint, objective findings, assessment, proposed treatment, and follow-up recommendations.
