We are currently accepting qualified applications for a Phlebotomist to support one of our government clients in Brooklyn, NY at the Metropolitan Dentition Center. Work will be 30-32 hours per week Monday through Friday.  
Description of Services/ Qualification/ Credentialing:
Phlebotomists will provide phlebotomy services in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of phlebotomy, and in compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations, including the Joint Commission (JC) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions.
Phlebotomists will be responsible for the following:
  • Independently collect and process laboratory specimens, then prepare specimens for packaging and transport according to Bureau Reference Lab instructions.
  • Draw blood in open, semi-open and locked units, which will require direct contact with inmates.
  • Keeping the work area neatly organized, maintaining the needle/syringe inventory, and properly documenting lab request logs.
  • Collect data relating to laboratory efforts (usage, types of labs studies, prompt receipt of orders and timely return of results by our contract labs, etc.).
  • Ensure that lab requests are completed properly and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, followed up appropriately, and scan results to the electronic medical record (BEMR).
  • Perform CLIA waived testing onsite and enter results into BEMR.
  • Perform minor clerical duties such as data entry, filing, scanning, scheduling of patients, record maintenance, contacting vendors for pricing information, and other general duties recognized as routine in a clinic.
  • Perform daily maintenance on laboratory equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Perform other miscellaneous clinic activities as needed, such as DNA collections or electrocardiograms.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and local policy and procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
  • Assist the HSA or his/her designee in the coordination of Bureau and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies.
Education and Experience:
  • Phlebotomists must either have completed a 12-weeks Phlebotomy or Lab Technician Program, an approved state program, or possess an associate degree.
  • Phlebotomists must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Phlebotomists must have at least six-month experience as a Phlebotomist or Lab Technician in a clinical setting.
