We are currently accepting qualified applications for a NURSE PRACTITIONER to support one of our Government clients in beautiful Milan, MI.
Availability of Services:
  • A session is defined as one hour.
  • The Nurse Practitioner will normally provide 6 (1) hour sessions per day, 5 days per week, excluding Federal Holidays.
  • Work hours will normally be between 7:30am to 2:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
  • These hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution.
  • The Nurse Practitioner shall not normally exceed 30 hours per week.
Job Description:
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate
  • Take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays
  • Make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications
  • Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing
  • Attend to medical emergencies
  • Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy
  • Emergency consultation to be performed by the contractor in instances where deemed necessary. Perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits
  • Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans
  • Assists in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of the health care services
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems
  • Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick call; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations
  • Provides a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician
  • The duties of this position also require frequent direct contact with individuals in confinement, who are suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States.
  • Daily stress and exposure to potentially dangerous situations, (such as physical attack), are an inherent part of this position.
  • The NP will work under the Assistant Health Services Administrator and Clinical Director.
 Physical Demands:
  • The physical demands of this position are sedentary in nature, however, walking, standing, and sitting are required to accomplish the assigned duties.
 Patient Management:
  • The NP will be responsible for receiving patients and explaining procedures to alleviate undue anxiety, submitting reports and evaluations as requested.
  • The NP will be responsible for following directives and comply with Bureau of Prisons Health Services Manual, local institutional mandates, and the Health Services Department's policies in the management of all patient encounters.
