We are currently accepting qualified applications for a RN-Pediatric Inpatient Unit to support one of our Government clients at Madigan Army Medical Center (Ft. Lewis, WA)
 
Summary:  The Pediatric Inpatient Care Registered Nurse shall provide services in accordance with established standards, principals and ethics of the profession at Madigan Army Medical Center (Ft Lewis) providing health care services to a diverse population.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position):
  • Contract nurses providing services under this contract shall perform the same clinical duties as those required of any military or government civil service nurse of similar experience assigned to the same unit. Contract individuals may be designated by MAMC, Department or Nursing Service personnel to provide charge nurse responsibilities, team lead, provide orientation, and other activities as deemed appropriate. All nurses may be rotated throughout MAMC's clinical areas however they will not be required to work outside their scope of practice 
  • Initiate intravenous lines as ordered and obtain blood samples for lab and chemistries and other specimens, as ordered. 
  • Evaluate, observe, document and report patient signs/symptoms and response to therapy. 
  • Initiates infection control techniques when caring for all patients but especially for Immune-compromised. 
  • Monitor blood pressure, respirations, temperature, and weights.  
  • Set up oxygen tanks/wall oxygen and monitor patients while on oxygen. 
  • Insert urinary catheters using aseptic techniques. 
  • Perform dressing changes/minor wound care, splinting and operate patient care equipment.   
  • Initiate life-saving measures in the absence of a physician to the contract employee’s level of training.   
  • Ensure that the rooms are cleaned and stocked between patients.   
  • Shall assure content and correctness of all prepared reports and shall sign the document to validate its contents. 
  • Submit prepared documents before the end of assigned shift.   
  • Assist with administrative duties within the units/clinic to include patient flow, workload management, and filing, answering the phone, and scheduling patients. 
  • Ensure that isolation precautions are followed. 
  • Participates in inter-disciplinary team approach to ensure quality, timely, and ethical care. 
  • Provides ongoing patient education and documenting such in patient's chart. 
  • Ensures daily staff assignments are completed. 
  • Participates in unit continuous quality improvement activities by collecting and interpreting data, identifying trends, and making recommendations. 
  • Performs chaperone and escort duties. 
  • Assists patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measures.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
  • Registered Nurses shall be a graduate of an Associate, Diploma, or Baccalaureate degree from accredited school of nursing (National League of Nursing).
  • Possess and maintain a current, active, valid, unrestricted registered nurse license in at least one U.S. state, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. All licenses shall be unencumbered and remain in effect during employment. The Contractor shall provide the COR prime source verification of the nursing license, documentation shall include state, license number, expiration date, me1hod of verification, and names of verifying official.   
  • Must pass the Care National Agency Check. 
  • All Critical Care shall maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military raining Network (MTN) to be renewed every two years as required.  Contract nurses employees may attend MAMC BLS and ACLS recertification courses if space is available and at the discretion of the department COR.  Attendance is in a non-billable status only.  Specialty certifications such as Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification is highly desirable. 
  • Must have a minimum of one year experience in the past three years in the required specialty. 
  • A diploma, Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate in Nursing  from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. 
  • Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. 
  • At least one year of qualifying experience in the specialty being assigned.  
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • A strong working knowledge and skills to use a variety of computer systems. 
  • A strong working knowledge of the military health care system and computer documentation is highly desirable 
  • Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all parties and other health care providers.  In addition, if the position requires the use of computers, the contract HCPs shall be computer literate.
  • Shall have the required education, training, experience and documented current competence in the required specialty position description. 
  • Shall possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions.  Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
