We are currently accepting qualified applications for a RN/Urology Clinic to support one of our Government clients at Madigan Army Medical Center (Ft. Lewis, WA)
 
Summary:  The Registered Nurse / Urology Clinic shall provide services in accordance with established standards, principals and ethics of the profession at Madigan Army Medical Center (Ft Lewis) providing health care services to a diverse population.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position):
  • Shall Direct, and participate in, daily operations of the clinic team to ensure adequate patient flow and prompt attention to patient's individual conditions.
  • Shall make nursing care assignments to various skill levels of paraprofessional personnel. Assigns staff to patient care duties based on provider support requirements and expertise of staff.
  • Shall monitor and oversee staff performance on assigned team to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner.
  • Shall administer, or supervise the administration, of prescribed oral, subcutaneous, intradermal and intramuscular medications.
  • Shall participate in, or supervise assigned personnel in assisting with minor surgical procedures done in assigned clinic
  • Shall provide pre-operative and post-operative education to surgical patients in their assigned clinic
  • Shall answer patient inquiries and/or make phone calls to preoperative and postoperative patients to ensure that patients are well prepared for, and recovering from surgical procedures.
  • Shall participates in and support Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)/Total Quality Management (TQM) activities by participating in the clinic Performance Improvement (PI) program.
  • Shall provide wound care as needed to applicable patient population in assigned clini.
  • Shall function as an operating room circulator in major surgical procedures both in the facility main operating room and designated clinic operating rooms.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
  • Must be a registered nurse. Professional knowledge or substantial previous professional clinical nurse training and experience in the principles, procedures, and practices required for the care and management of ill patients with a variety of surgical or medical disorders/health problems.
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).  Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Associate degree in nursing or nursing diploma required at minimum.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • For Urology Clinic RN, CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) preferred but not required
  • Experience and training as a perioperative nurse for major and minor urologic procedures required.  In addition, experience with pre-operative assessment and education of surgical patients on a pre-anesthesia unit and experience in a urologic ambulatory clinic or on a hospital inpatient surgical unit preferred but not required.  Wound care experience or training preferred but not required.
  • Shall have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).  Certification must be by American Heart Association specifically stating it is for healthcare providers and will be renewed every two years.
  • Shall maintain all license and certification requirements and meet all continuing education requirements of the U.S. jurisdiction in which they are licensed to practice. 
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of clinical skills to provide specialized services to patients with injuries, illnesses, or surgeries which require adaptation of established nursing procedures.
  • Knowledge of emergency and resuscitative measures.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, to include special drugs such as nitroglycerine, heparin, and insulin, their desired effects, the normal course of diseases, anticipated complications and identified therapeutic interventions.
  • Thorough operating knowledge of the administrative procedures of the clinic necessary to perform administrative duties. 
  • Ability to plan, assign and direct other nursing personnel.
  • Knowledge and skills to interact with patient and family members in a stressful environment in order to provide support and information on a variety of disease processes.
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development.
  • Ability to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide the care needed by the pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient group.
  • Knowledge of prevention and wellness strategies, health risk assessment, use of clinical guidelines and disease state management as well as self care management and education.
  • Knowledge of patient education strategies and stages of change as well as facilitating group process and education in small groups.
  • Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all parties and other health care providers.  In addition, if the position requires the use of computers, the contract HCPs shall be computer literate.
  • Shall have the required education, training, experience and documented current competence in the required specialty position description. 
  • Shall possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
